Where is Willesden? Fifteen pupils have known the answer for a week now: far out in west London! These intrepid explorers had set out to visit the Cambodian Embassy there – perhaps the first school group ever to do so. In doing so, they were following in the footsteps of Zadie Smith, in whose short story the building plays a key role. Hold on to your hats: it’s even abiturrelevant! And despite intensive research at the local wellness centre, the nearby church and the Afghan café: we didn’t come across anyone Zadie Smith knew (though we did meet some fans). 

As with all good expeditions, the destination was thoroughly researched. London sparkles and glitters when viewed at night whilst picnicking on Primrose Hill. London is impressive when viewed from the English Garden on the rooftop of a skyscraper. London looks stately when explored from a sightseeing boat on the noble river Thames. And London shows its friendliest side when you strike up a conversation with its residents, even if it’s just whilst ordering fried chicken. 
Since we’re back, we keep calm and carry on. Seen from the outside, we may seem cool, but deep down we are sure: this was the best study trip of all of them (don’t let anyone tell you otherwise)!

Oh, and we don’t just know where Willesden is. We’ve been there.
